Resonetics Expands Costa Rican Operations
• The company expanded cleanroom square-footage and added wire-grinding services.
San José, Costa Rica. July 29, 2020. -
Resonetics, a company in the medical device industry and that produces supplies used by various companies in the industry, completed its expansion of manufacturing facilities at the Coyol Free Zone in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The expansion doubles the size of its Class 8 cleanroom for laser ablation and cutting processes for polymer components and adds a full mezzanine to create space for laser welding and wire grinding operations.
With this expansion, Resonetics also expects to double its number of employees over the next two years. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and focuses on the high-volume production of sub-assemblies and components, both for export and for the local medical device industry.
On behalf of the Government of Costa Rica, the Minister of Foreign Trade, Dyalá Jiménez, extended her congratulations to Resonetics on the successful completion of this important expansion. Jiménez thanked the company for the trust it has placed in Costa Rica – for continuing its growth, adding value to the business climate, and taking advantage of the favorable conditions that Costa Rica offers for investment.
“Today, more than ever, it is very important to ensure a competitive business environment, to foster productivity, and allow companies to grow and, with this growth, to generate new job opportunities for Costa Ricans. For this reason, the news of Resonetics’s expansion – of a pioneering company in its field, whose operations help strengthen competitiveness in this cluster of the country – fills us with joy and pride. Furthermore, they are a living example of how Costa Rica continues to be a strategically for leading companies on a global level, and demonstrate how Costa Rican human talent is, without a doubt, the most valuable component of our value offering,” added the Minister.
Currently, the life sciences sector in Costa Rica employs more than 29,000 people working in 70 companies.
"We are pleased to invest more in our Costa Rican operations and to establish our company in the number-one free zone park in Latin America and the Caribbean," said Tom Burns, President andamp; CEO of Resonetics. “This expansion allows us to offer more services to our customers, while also providing additional capacity to support the exponential growth we are experiencing. Our operation in Costa Rica is a strategic component of Resonetics' global manufacturing network with strong engineering resources, wonderful productivity, and excellent infrastructure for advanced manufacturing.”
Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE, commented: “In 2019, reinvestments represented 70% of FDI in the Free Trade Zone of Costa Rica. These figures are possible thanks to the fact that our country has demonstrated an ability to partner with companies to generate productive sustainability, in each of its 3 pillars: people, planet, and prosperity. In other words, we are a country increasingly committed to sustainability and development in Industry 4.0 – issues that are of vital importance for companies seeking strategic partnerships in their operations, such as the case with Resonetics.”
