San Jose, Costa Rica, November 24, 2014. CINDE Managing Director, Jorge Sequeira, participated as a panelist in the Forum: Building an Industrial Policy for Costa Rica, organized by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce of Costa Rica, that served as a scenery for discussion, analysis and propositions of new ideas that allow to develop a national policy for the industrial sector of the country.
The forum with discussion panels on competitiveness and innovation, as well as talks about the importance of promoting the industrial sector and the linkages as necessary environments for solid competitions in a globalized economy.
During the activity it was noted that the competitiveness agenda for foreign direct investment (FDI) and the national industry agenda was the same. Therefore, the implementation of a policy oriented to promote the industry’s competitiveness will favor the national development and the population’s quality of life.
The panelists agreed that one of the main challenges and objectives for the country is to optimize the conditions of areas outside the central valley in order for these to become potential locations for industrial companies. CINDE will be supporting the Government in the task of carrying multinational companies to developing zones complementing the initiatives of other institutions that are supporting this important country goal.
During the forum, the President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, reflected on the importance of inter-institutional articulation for a successful industrial policy, emphasizing that this should be an inclusive and consensual task for all sectors.
The forum led to relevant conclusions about the competitiveness agenda which must be followed in order for the country to create further opportunities of growth for the population.
