Costa Rica Becomes the 38th Member of the OECD
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (
OECD) announced today that Costa Rica is officially now the 38th member.
It is also now the fourth Latin American country to belong to this group that conglomerates 80% of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP) and 60% of international trade.
Ángel Gurría, Secretary-General of the organization said: “We are delighted to welcome Costa Rica into the OECD family at a time when multilateralism is more important than ever. As the 38th Member of this Organisation - and the 4th Latin American country - Costa Rica will no doubt represent a new beacon for the OECD in Latin America.”
For his part, President Carlos Alvaro affirmed that “We will work on high-standard public policy for the benefit of all of Costa Rica.”
