The Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC) in collaboration with CINDE and the University of Minnesota designed the first Master’s Degree in Latin America in Medical Devices Engineering.
Students will receive the first of three classes taught by teachers from the University of Minnesota as part of their academic development.

San Jose, April 10th 2015. Costa Rica takes the lead in education with the official launch of the first Master’s Degree in Latin America in Medical Devices Engineering. About 46 students of the Master’s Degree developed by Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC), with the support of the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) and the University of Minnesota, will receive the first international innovation class taught by the renowned international teacher, Dann Mooradian from the University of Minnesota.

The innovation course is the first of three programs that will be developed by the American university as part of the training of future professionals specializing in Medical Devices in the region.

"The School of Materials Engineering of TEC is proud to present to the medical industry community in Costa Rica, a Master's program in response to the needs of high-level education established by the industry one year ago" said the master’s degree coordinator, Ricardo Esquivel Isern.

Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE commented, "Today a very important step is taken in the academic formation of Costa Rican professionals who want to develop successfully in the medical devices industry. This project developed by TEC, CINDE and the University of Minnesota, was born with the intention of opening educational quality spaces for people who want to grow with the help of multinational companies working in the Life Sciences sector, including medical devices."

Multinational companies dedicated to medical device manufacturing have taken a central role in the economy, employing technical and academic Costa Rican professionals who work in the development of high sophistication products. Back in February of this year medical devices became the main export product, carrying the Costa Rican label to the US, Europe and Asia.
