Costa Rica: Med Tech Giant of the Americas
- With 14 of the world’s top 100 MedTech companies already established in the country, Costa Rica has proven to be the ideal environment to create patient-centered solutions.
Health Tech World, the medical-industry-focused media outlet, recently interviewed CINDE’s Lead for the Life Sciences sector, Carolina Sánchez, for its special report “Global Health Tech Clusters”.
“Costa Rica is at the forefront of the MedTech industry and we still have plenty of room to grow here”, Sánchez states.
The country boasts the names of 13 of the top 20 OEMs, which take part in the technology-enabled ecosystem of 92 medical devices companies that have chosen Costa Rica to grow, collaborate, and innovate.
Names such as Boston Scientific, Edwards Lifesciences, Smith & Nephew, and the Cooper companies, are a few of the industry leaders that have chosen Costa Rica to operate, given its wide range of talent, world-class suppliers, service providers, and its competitive incentive package.
Additionally, the country’s prime location and time zone, as well as its 15 FTAs, provide quick and easy access to 2/3 of the world’s GDP. To make this nearshoring location even more coveted, Costa Rica’s exports were deemed as the least volatile exports of the Americas during the pandemic, according to UNCTAD’s 2021 Global Trade Update.
“We are eager to host more medical related operations in the country”, concludes Sánchez.
