Intel Donates 6,000 Protective Face Masks for Costa Rican Healthcare Professionals

Given the health emergency due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), Intel Costa Rica has donated 6,000 protective face masks for employees of the Costa Rican Social Security Institute (CCSS), which is working on the front line to provide care to those who need it.
“We at Intel Costa Rica are supporting the authorities’ efforts to prevent further propagation of the coronavirus and hope that this donation will contribute to the great work being done by CCSS employees in the country’s medical centers. We urge the public to follow the measures recommended by the authorities and stay at home as long as necessary,” stated Timothy Scott Hall, Manager of Government Affairs and Public Relations at Intel Costa Rica.
Dr. Román Macaya Hayes, CEO of the Costa Rican Social Security Institute (CCSS), expressed his thanks for this donation from Intel, saying that this was a great example of the private sector’s value and sensitivity in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As a country, we are doing our utmost to make sure CCSS workers have the required personal protective equipment to deal with this emergency, and this donation from such an important company for the world and Costa Rica as Intel is going to strengthen and add to this work,” said Macaya.
This donation is part of Intel Corporation’s initiative to provide one million personal protection items to health workers in different parts of the world. In addition, in January it also donated US$1 million to the International Red Cross to support global aid efforts for this pandemic.
Measures Taken by Intel Costa Rica
In the face of the national emergency, Intel Costa Rica has taken the following measures to protect the health and safety of its employees and their families:
1. All personnel who can work from home should do so. Physical presence in the facilities has been restricted to critical business duties.
2. Meeting rooms are used at no more than 50% capacity and with no more than 10 people, and participants must sit in every other chair. As much as possible, however, meetings are virtual.
3. Outside visits are suspended.
4. Physically present volunteering is suspended.
5. People should sit by themselves in the company’s eleven bus routes.
6. Only one person per table may be seated in the cafeteria, with all chairs facing the same direction. Moreover, signs are posted for maintaining social distancing in the line for paying.
7. Anyone with symptoms should check in to the clinic for examination.
8. Anyone returning from a trip must obligatorily stay home for 14 days.
9. A subsidy in the form of reimbursement is available for employees to pay for childcare at home in order to continue working.
10. The management team meets every day to check the status of the different areas and analyze the measures announced by the authorities.
Intel Costa Rica is working to help the country in the fight against COVID-19 even more with other donations and virtual volunteering, to be specified in upcoming weeks.
