Samtec to Hire 200 More Operators, Maintenance Technicians, and Production Supervisors

  • An increase in staff will support the company's aggressive international marketing strategy.
  • Hiring will take place during the year's first semester.
Alajuela, May 5, 2021. Samtec, a multinational manufacturing company, recently announced that it will hire 200 more people in Costa Rica, to satisfy high international demand for the production of its electronic devices.

Available positions are open to operators with a high school diploma and maintenance technicians and production supervisors; these new hires will join the company's 1,100 other employees in Costa Rica. Samtec does not rule out the possibility of more hires in the coming months.

Carlos Alvarado, President of the Republic, underscored that this is the second consecutive time, during the pandemic, that the company has increased its Costa Rican payroll; the first round of hires occurred last April.

President Alvarado thanked the company for the trust it has placed in Costa Rica: 20% of Samtec's global production is now in the hands of Costa Rican talent. The president stressed, "We will continue to work on developing Costa Rican skills and capacities, to create the conditions necessary to attract ever more investment in our country."

José Sánchez, General Manager at Samtec Costa Rica, commented, “In 2006, Samtec established Costa Rican operations with the idea of maintaining a manufacturing plant close to the United States. The country was also chosen for its English level and literacy rates and legal and personal securities. In recent years, Samtec has grown not only in production but also in its corporate services. Currently, we offer corporate information systems, purchasing, research and development, and drafting, among other services. Additionally, Costa Rica is at the center of our corporation's automated processes, as this is the plant with the most automated machines.”

Andrés Valenciano, Costa Rican Minister of Foreign Trade, stated, “In the advanced manufacturing sector, Costa Rica has positioned itself as a leader in Latin America. As a result of our solid strategy to attract investment, backed by our value offer, we are positioned for very sophisticated links in the Global Value Chain."

Valenciano added, “With 15 years in the country, Samtec has become a strategic ally for Costa Rica. They create opportunities and contribute to the competitiveness of our national productive ecosystem. We congratulate the company and celebrate their growth, which will provide 200 more Costa Rican jobs."

Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE, further commented, “Samtec is one in a cluster of companies leading digital transformation through state-of-the-art electronic components – a sector that, when faced with the pandemic, has become even more relevant, in an industry where Costa Rica demonstrates its extensive experience since the 1990s, from advanced manufacturing to today's engineering and testing processes. Thanks to the country's COVID-19 response, Samtec's Costa Rican headquarters have been able to respond satisfactorily to the growing global demand for these products, while ensuring business continuity for its customers around the world. The combination that Costa Rica offers, in terms of human talent, environmental sustainability paired with clean energy, and a prosperous ecosystem of multinational companies, fosters collaboration and creates an environment that is not only highly resilient but also innovative when faced with new challenges of industry 4.0."
