Thermo Fisher Scientific Expands its Costa Rican Footprint with New Purchasing Center of Excellence
San José, April 29, 2021. Thermo Fisher Scientific, a multinational company, expanded its Costa Rican operations with the announcement of a new purchasing center of excellence that includes the Direct Purchasing, Indirect Purchasing, and Purchasing Excellence teams.
This growth has made it possible for the company to increase Thermo Fisher Scientific's total Costa Rican payroll by 32 positions, adding to the company’s current 400+ local employees. The new business center is located in UltraLag Park, in Lagunilla de Heredia, and will support operations in the United States.
Andrés Valenciano, the Minister of Foreign Trade, commented, “Thanks to our strategic vision and country value proposition, we have become a favorite destination for business. In evidence of this, Costa Rica is home to a robust ecosystem of multinational companies, of which around 70 correspond to the life sciences sector. Over the years, this cluster has demonstrated not only its dynamism but also its contribution to society, through innovative, competitive, resilient, and inclusive businesses."
Valenciano added, “We congratulate the Thermo Fisher Scientific company, which, hand in hand with Costa Rican talent, continues to grow. I reaffirm the commitment we have as an administration: We will continue working to guarantee an increasingly competitive business climate, in which multinationals find in Costa Rica an important ally for their operations."
Federico Donato, Costa Rica’s Site Leader of Thermo Fisher Scientific Service Center, said, “Costa Rica has allowed our company to continue consolidating our business strategy, with the help of Costa Rican human talent. Costa Rica's value proposition meshes perfectly with the values that we promote in our company, and we are sure that we will continue to find in Costa Rica a long-term partner for our operations."
Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of
CINDE, commented, “We thank Thermo Fisher Scientific for the trust placed in Costa Rica, and in bringing new operations to the country. In addition to the business continuity that Costa Rica has demonstrated throughout the pandemic, our quality of human talent and the legal securities that we have had for decades, help Thermo Fisher and other companies make the decision to reinvest, year after year. By the end of 2020 alone, CINDE reported a record number of 81 investment projects in the country."
Thermo Fisher Scientific already maintains a financial services center and commercial operations in Costa Rica, making it a strategic decision for the company to newly invest in support for a range of services in the purchasing sector.
