San Jose, Costa Rica. June 16, 2022.Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in
serving science, has announced the expansion of its Costa Rican operations due to the migration of its business divisions and groups in the United States to its shared services center in Costa Rica.
“The reason for our growth in Costa Rica is that here we have found human talent for consolidating our business strategy with a solid financial support team. With the shared services center, the Costa Rican operations have speeded up financial processes, standardizing them and eliminating redundancies. This has been essential for improving our business in the North American market, so we have 75 new job openings,” affirmed Federico Donato, Senior Director and Site Leader in Costa Rica.
With headquarters in Massachusetts, U.S.A., Thermo Fisher is among the Fortune 500 companies and recognized for its contributions to the field of
life sciences through
innovative technologies for increased laboratory productivity, pharmaceutical services, scientific research, and health services, among other things.
According to Foreign Trade Vice Minister Paula Bogantes, “the life sciences sector continues to show tremendous dynamism, positioning Costa Rica as a regional leader in quality, efficiency, and innovation. The country already hosts Fortune 500 companies such as Thermo Fisher, which today has announced 75 new job openings to support a variety of business areas such as procurement, supply chain, and finance. This vote of confidence is a challenge for us to further strengthen our investment climate so that we can continue to support companies of such high caliber that help boost our country’s growth and development.”
From Costa Rica, in addition to its shared services center where it supports many business areas and locations around the United States, the company distributes clean room products for other medical device companies, including hair covers, shoe covers, gloves, and other products.
Noting the growth of Thermo Fisher,
CINDE Managing Director Jorge Sequeira added, “Costa Rican is consolidating as a strategic destination with a stable, collaborative ecosystem for developing multifunctional businesses. Thermo Fisher has not only proven to be a top supplier for the life sciences industry but also continues to grow with
knowledge-based services that undoubtedly bear on the strong performance of this subsector with a record export figure of $6,412.8 million in 2021, adding sophistication to its customers’ strategic and analytical processes from our country.”
Knowledge-based services grew by 8.4% from 2020 to 2021 and accounted for more than 71% of all Costa Rican service exports last year.
Thermo Fisher Scientific is looking for finance, accounts receivable, procurement, accounts payable, and supply chain profiles to fill its 75 job openings.
