Heredia, Costa Rica. Thursday, October 3, 2019. Seven years ago, the multinational company VMware started operations in Costa Rica with just five employees. Today, it has more than 665 direct jobs and plans to open 130 positions in the near future.
The company made the announcement this Thursday in an event that gathered the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, the Minister of Foreign Trade, Dyalá Jiménez; the Minister of Science, Technology and Telecommunications, Luis Adrián Salazar; and the CINDE’s Managing Director, Jorge Sequeira.
Founded in 1998 in Palo Alto, California, VMware is recognized as a global leader in cloud computing, security, networking and virtualization solutions. The company has about 24 thousand employees worldwide.
From America Free Zone, in Heredia, VMware has one of the largest and most strategic global centers, from where they manage multifunctional processes to regional and local operations. The company will expand its operation in Costa Rica due to the excellent business climate found in the country, along with top class human talent and the ability for employees to permeate the company's values.
Carlos Páez, Director of Global Sales and Country Manager for VMware Costa Rica, said: “In seven years, VMware has grown exponentially, not only in headcount, but also in the complexity and responsibilities of the new roles. Among the requirements to work in VMware, English speaking is a must, as well as demonstrating experience in areas such as: finance, customer service, quality assurance, project management, human resources, and sales operations. Roles available include process design, data management and analysis, planning and reporting.
Carlos Alvarado, President of Costa Rica, reaffirmed his Government's commitment to strengthening the country’s competitive conditions “so that current and future investments can continue expanding their operations and generating employment, just as VMWare did today.”
