Cartago, Costa Rica. November 17, 2020. ADMEDES, the world’s largest contract manufacturer of nitinol self-expandable components for medical devices, has chosen Cartago, Costa Rica, as its third center of operations to join its two other facilities in Germany and the United States.
ADMEDES plans to hire app. 150 employees in the next 18 months, which started in October, and will be investing more than $4 million in this first establishment phase. The company will hire, beside Production Workers, Engineers and Technicians with experience in medical device manufacturing and metal forming with strong soft skills and a master of English.
“We are pleased to announce this new investment, which will create high value-added jobs for Cartago. We will be blending our philosophy of “ideas, expertise and passion” with talented Costa Ricans seeking to provide the highest skill level to meet our commitment to the company. I am convinced this will mark the start of the first step towards a successful long-term relationship. We hope to continue growing in Costa Rica soon,” said Joshua Quesada, plant manager for ADMEDES Costa Rica.
Duayner Salas, Costa Rica’s acting foreign trade minister, noted “Costa Rica is a leading destination for FDI in medical technology. Innovation, education, and a thirst for knowledge make our country the ideal home for the 250 high-tech companies that have chosen us as their destination. We celebrate ADMEDES’ investment because it shows we are the right partner for achieving sustainable productivity and investments with purpose.”
Why Costa Rica? CINDE managing director, Jorge Sequeira, extolled the country’s arrival in Costa Rica. “The presence of ADMEDES and 71 other life sciences companies reinforce and strengthen the medical device export sector. We are talking about a cluster that includes original equipment manufacturers, specialized suppliers, and contract manufacturers, among others. This shows how attractive Costa Rica is because of its many global value chain linkages, which enable it to increase value-added and export finished products to markets in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.”
The ADMEDES plant manager affirmed that the company chose Costa Rica precisely due to its exceptional performance in life sciences - the sector to which the company belongs - and the excellent results obtained with G.RAU (a member of the same group).
“Costa Rica’s skilled and high-performing talent, free trade zone regime benefits, political and social stability, efforts to maintain and incentivize foreign investment growth, and commitment to environmental conservation all mark the difference,” added Quesada, who also thanked the Municipality of Cartago’s assistance in the hiring process.
Available positions include operators, precision mechanics, technicians, mechanical and materials engineers, and administrative staff. Those interested in applying for the vacant positions should visit www.admedes.com or send their CV to career-cr@admedes.com or to gabrielapq@muni-cartago.go.cr.
