CINDE and Ministry of Tourism Relocate Jobs Via Virtual Platform Offering 950 Open Positions
• Initiative seeks to support the tourism sector and other industries through the relocation of personnel.
• 20 multinational, free-trade zone companies join the initiative to incorporate new positions and help combat the COVID-19 emergency in Costa Rica.
• More than 950 positions are available to jobseekers from tourism and any other affected sector.
San José, Costa Rica. April 22, 2020. To combat the repercussions generated in the labor sector due to the COVID-19 health emergency, the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) has designed a
virtual platform to bring together all current job offerings available at multinational companies. The platform will facilitate the relocation of jobseekers from the tourism industry – and any other affected sector – who have unfortunately lost their jobs due to the pandemic. To date, more than 950 positions are available.
This initiative is part of a joint agreement, since February 2019, between the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) and CINDE. The virtual platform offers job opportunities to anyone who has been affected, regardless of industry.
Open positions seek recruits in the areas of human resources, data analysis, software engineering and development, customer service, technical support, manufacturing, finance, and accounting, among others.
The platform will allow companies with open positions to announce new opportunities as well. To date, more than 20 multinational companies have joined. Any company that wishes to incorporate their job offerings, may contact invest@cinde.org.
The Minister of Tourism, Maria Amalia Revelo, stated that “this type of initiative is both urgent and timely, and brings relief to the tourism sector – a portion of the workforce that has been seriously affected by the pandemic. Innovation will be key to finding solutions for those who have lost their jobs.”
The Minister of Foreign Trade, Dyalá Jiménez, also commented: "In these challenging circumstances, the foreign trade sector – COMEX, PROCOMER, and CINDE – has collaborated with other government authorities and with representatives from the private sector. Through collaboration and coordination, we have worked to reduce the social and economic impact of this pandemic. I applaud the construction of CINDE’s virtual platform – a product of the creativity these circumstances demand and a sampling of the possibility we have, as a country, to continue stimulating the economy and supporting our various industries. Only together, will we move forward.”
Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE, added: “Although multinational companies are not unaffected on a global level by the impact of COVID-19, there are also some operations that, given their line of business, are now growing and able to offer new employment opportunities to more Costa Ricans. We seek solidarity: Where doors have closed to some, we look to open others in new sectors. Costa Rica has demonstrated its ability to provide business continuity, with more than 98% of service companies in the free-trade zone migrating to a 100% work-from-home model, while still serving the world.”
In the last week and including these recently available positions, more than 3,000 jobs have been announced, thanks to growth opportunities at multinational companies in Costa Rica. These corporations have reiterated their confidence in Costa Rica, especially in the competence of the nation’s human talent.
Among participating companies are Procter andamp; Gamble, Bimbo Global Services, AstraZeneca, Equifax, Citrix, Sykes, Neustar, Prodigious, and Amazon, which on Monday announced the creation of 2,000 new jobs.
