Edwards Lifesciences will hire 370 employees for new facility
● The medical devices company has 480 employees in Costa Rica and plans to recruit 370 more during this month and 2019.
● Edwards Lifesciences is building its new facility in La Lima Free Zone.
San José, December 10, 2018. Edwards Lifesciences Corporation, global leader in patient-focused medical innovations for structural heart disease, as well as critical care and surgical monitoring, plans to hire 370 employees as part of its expansion in Costa Rica.
“We are proud to contribute from Costa Rica to today’s and tomorrow’s product development that aid patients worldwide. Our new facilities will start operating 100% by 2020, with our staff's positive experience, performance and passion. Our current facility will continue operating at the same time as part of our strategy to build long-term capabilities,” explained Josué Campos, General Plant Manager.
The company has job positions for operators, technicians and administrative staff; specifically, in the areas of facilities, engineering, human resources, finance, technical training, supply chain and logistics, quality, purchasing, microbiology and chemistry. Those interested in the operative positions must have approved ninth grade, as well as showing good motor and manual skills and easy to follow instructions.

In our country, the company has a high-tech plant for manufacturing cardiovascular valves which are exported worldwide. It is thanks to companies such as this one that, by October 2018, the life sciences exports in Costa Rica represented 29% of the goods exports, with a value of US$2,758 million. By the end of 2017, all the sector summed up 22.400 Costa Rican employees.”
Edwards Lifesciences, headquartered in California, USA, manufactures cardiovascular valves placed on patients with heart diseases. In Costa Rica, it sews and assemblies the pieces that are exported to other locations to finish the final assembly, and to carry out the product’s subsequent export to medical centers, worldwide. The company established in Costa Rica since 2016 and currently has over 480 employees.
“We came to Costa Rica to grow hand-to-hand with its people, offering high-quality jobs to Cartago and its surrounding areas, as we contribute to its local community with multiple social programs,” added Campos.
The recruitment process will be between this month and 2019. Edwards Lifesciences is in the final process of building its new 26,000 m2 operation center, in La Lima, Cartago, from where it will manufacture its tissue heart valves.
“This new plant will allow us to expand to supply the patients’ needs in a high-tech facility. The construction plant includes 9 clean-rooms, with specialized labs, a cafeteria, gym, medical facilities and co-working spaces. The building has been designed with eco-friendly materials under the LEED® standards,” said Federico Rivera, Compliance Manager/ Facilities and Resource Manager.
