2017. The global consulting firm McKinsey andamp; Company, dedicated to helping institutions in the private, public and social sectors achieve lasting success, announced the expansion of its operations to serve new businesses. The announcement was made today during the visit of Luis Guillermo Solís, President of Costa Rica to the firm’s center at Ultrapark II in Lagunilla, Heredia. The center provides global support to McKinsey colleagues and clients around the world.
McKinsey started operations in Costa Rica in 2010 with a small team and has grown to over 700 colleagues. The growth in both the number of employees as well as capabilities offered from the Center is a reflection of the great talent McKinsey has been able to attract and retain in Costa Rica.
There are multiple global teams in the McKinsey Costa Rica center, ranging from diverse client offerings such as Visual Graphics andamp; Media, Technology andamp; Digital, Research Analytics and New Ventures.
Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera, President of Costa Rica, expressed his satisfaction with this expansion announcement carried out by McKinsey andamp; Company in Costa Rica.
"This is the result of Costa Rica's effort to strengthen the competitive conditions that the country needs to attract investment. This articulated work allows us to create jobs, thanks to the alliance with the productive and business sectors, which adds to the solid actions of the government to maintain a growing economy, with an active attraction of investments and the construction of public infrastructure necessary to bring optimum conditions", affirmed the president Solís Rivera.”
Precisely the President’s visit was the scenario to introduce a new operating area; New Ventures, focused on developing cutting-edge digital solutions. With this area, the office becomes a leading technical center of excellence in the Firm. McKinsey is making significant investments in Costa Rica due to the richness of the country's talent market. Costa Ricans contribute to the expansion of these sophisticated, forward-thinking capabilities and enrich their own careers.
Andres Cadena, McKinsey Senior Partner, remarked, "We are very happy to have President Solís visit our facilities and meet our local colleagues. It’s the dedication and talent of Costa Ricans that is making our center a success for our clients, and we look forward to continue recruiting and developing people and creating compelling professional paths for our colleagues."
Alexander Mora, Minister of Foreign Trade, said “during its 7 years of operation in the country, Mc Kinsey has had a solid and extended growth, changing from a small operation in the beginning to hosting almost 700 Costa Ricans with the expectation of duplicating its footprint in the country in the next years. By incorporating new and more complex processes, the company has diversified its local operations and exportable offer. It is an example of growth and transformation that demonstrates how the services sector has progressively evolved to greater value added tasks and has become a pillar of our economy capable of responding to global trends of innovation and efficiency. From the Central Government, we congratulate McKinsey on its success. We are delighted about its intentions of increasing their operations in Costa Rica. For our part, we will continue working to maintain those conditions of competitiveness that have allowed this and many other companies to provide services of quality and global reach. "
Early 2018, McKinsey will move into a new building with capacity for 1300 full-time colleagues, and plans to grow their local operations significantly over the next 3-5 years. As the McKinsey Center is based in Heredia, McKinsey is thankful for the President’s recent investment in road infrastructure in the surrounding areas.
Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director at CINDE said “the growth experienced by McKinsey in the country ratifies the company’s confidence in the local human talent. All the multinational companies of the services sector have found a strategic partner for their operations here. Thanks to these companies, knowledge-intensive services exports increased from 9% in 2000 to 46% in 2016. "
