San Jose, Costa Rica. May 30, 2022.
Smash, a
tech company providing support to companies in the United States, has announced its growth in Costa Rica with more than 100 new job openings to be filled by the end of the year.
“We came to Costa Rica because we believe the best tech talent in the world for working with U.S. companies can be found in this small Central American paradise - and our customers agree with us. We know the quality of education of Costa Rican information technology professionals and are certain that with Smash we can work together to hone their skills to the highest level,” assured Kelly Phillipps, CEO of Smash.
The company from Utah, U.S.A., arrived in Costa Rica in 2019. At present it has 120 employees in this country and expects to double this figure by the end of 2022.
According to Foreign Trade Minister Manuel Tovar, “Costa Rica is a
knowledge-intensive economy that exports twice as many services as the average of OECD countries. As a result, Smash has made a decision to grow, having found in our country offering the ideal conditions for its business line, including a creative and
innovative workforce.”
He also noted that “the
digital technology industry is experiencing steady growth that together with a knowledge economy provides tremendous job opportunities. We in the government will be working hard to attract more companies in this dynamic sector.”
Smash works to connect Costa Rican talent with U.S. companies that need to boost their teams with tech experts. At present the company is seeking bilingual candidates with mastery of English such as front-end developers with experience in JavaScript and frameworks such as React, VueJS, or Angular; back-end developers in .Net, C#, Java, or Python; and full stack developers with programming knowledge.
Also needed are engineers specializing in quality control (manual/automation), data, CRM software, DevOps, UI/UX, and other areas.
“We congratulate Smash on this major growth spurt aimed at boosting the services for their clients by hiring 100 more Costa Ricans. According to the World Economic Forum, our country ranks #1 in digital skills in Latin America and is forging a path as a knowledge-intensive service economy. Central Bank data indicates that Costa Rica exports of these types of services are growing at an average annual rate of 18%, reaching $6,412 million at the end of 2021,” stated CINDE Managing Director, Jorge Sequeira.
Digital technology is one of the most dynamic sectors both globally and in Costa Rica in terms of employment, especially in areas such as software development, computing,
cybersecurity, quality and systems engineering,
cloud management, and project management, among others.
Smash’s goal is to reach 1,000 employees in the next four years, maintaining an approach based on knowledge and know-how, so it is open to hiring professionals with at least two years of experience. The company’s team and internal culture have tools for developing general skills, tech trends, and English proficiency.
